Hi.

I have a question - since PR is a Google generated concept, does Yahoo consider it in its algorithm for ranking websites or does it have its own similar measurement of trust/importance etc?

Exactly! PR is Google’s proprietary tool to assign value to web pages. Yahoo has its own called Web Rank. Yahoo WebRank is basically a rank assigned to a URL by Yahoo on a scale of 0-10. Yahoo Webrank was introduced in Yahoo toolbar somewhere in 2004 but was discontinued soon. There are little or no evidence on how it effects your rankings on Yahoo!

PR is not necessary for the ranking of the sites. The ranking depends on the quality of the content of the site and also the usability of the content.Ranking depend on the number of back links and also on the key word count. This is search engine specific. So it is different for different search engines.
