Are Meta Tags Outdated?

I have many confusion on meta tag. I came to know, now there is no importance of meta tags and it is outdated. Also many search engines stopped relying on this meta tag. Can any one give some information on this?

No, they aren’t. They are just as alive and kicking.
*Meta keywords tag is no longer important for Google because webmasters have abused its usage. But, I am sure you are not optimizing your website for Google only, so you need to include them in your page for good ranking in other search engines.
