JUNK ARTICLE SITES
We see 100s of article sites today. Why do they exist? I have seen use for very few article sites like ezine articles, article dash board etc. But what about others, we see more than 500 article sites. All these article sites want to show that they have lot of content pages to search engines. But in fact almost all the content pages they have are duplicated across other article sites. Also some article sites have templates very similar to others or they use the templates that are sold by sites like article dash board.
Like the directories, article sites are emerging to be a big menace for the search engines day by day. Search engines already have effective duplicate detection system and they are tackling spam article sites effectively. Creating lot of article submission is part of search engine manipulation methods, because we cannot find any other reason to run junk article sites.
Google recently came up with an algorithm which targets just article reproduction sites. Their algorithm is not capable of detecting low quality contents and either neglect them or bury them under quality content sites / pages. Even the big ezine article site was affected by this algorithm. I have discussed this in detail under panda update and search engine manipulation.

A survey was conducted to ascertain the level of decrease in the number of junk articles. From the period of 1999 to 2008, the number of junk articles in various sites kept on increasing but later after 2008 there was rapid decrease in the number.
