UNRELATED KEYWORDS

Using keywords in text is an important way to let the search engine know that a webpage or a website is related to a particular topic. Almost every SEO copywriter who writes for websites make sure they include important targeted keywords in their text. This helps the search engine know what the particular webpage or website is about. But many people try to use this search engine dependency on keywords to abuse the search engines using unrelated keywords.

Unrelated keyword stuffing is a method of spamdexing where keywords not related to the page are stuffed to gain search engine benefit. Matt Cutts of Google has an excellent article on keyword stuffing here. Users cannot see those keywords but search engines can see it. It's a typical unrelated keyword spam and search engines are hard against it.

It is highly misleading because when people do a search for a keyword and the page doesn't appear it is not good for them. Search engines are here to provide best user experience and if the users cannot get relevant results they will switch to other search engines. Stuffing unrelated keywords on a page is a search engine manipulation that needs to be dealt with severely.

Working Examples

This image is an example that shows how unrelated keywords are added in the eBay auction site, to increase the pagerank. While the pagerank is high for such pages, these WebPages are actually manipulating the search engines and the users as they add unrelated words which actually their site is not about. These kinds of tactics are done to deceive the search engine, but are penalized by Google in the long run.
